R.I.P PS3

Yesterday was the start of my two days off. I've just worked 9 days without one due to the manager being on holiday.
I decided I'm going to do what I do best. Game. The previous weekend I (my partner bought it :P) treated myself to a playstation plus subscription. I ummd and ahhhd about It but decided it was definitely going to be worth it, afterall you get discounts on downloadable games an you get up to 10 free games a month. Yes. Completely free. So I downloaded Okami HD. I have it on PS2 but could never get passed the beginning for some reason. However I've really gotten into it.

Anyways, I switch on my PS3 yesterday and it wouldn't come on. It would for a second, flash a light then switch off. I thought it was maybe because of something with the controller because it was flashing and I'd just charged it on the laptop. So I wait for the light to go off the controller then try again, nothing. After a couple of times I realise there's been a quick flash of yellow, then I remembered. "The Yellow Light Of Death" similar to the Red Ring Of Death with the XBOX360. This problem is not easily fixed.

The basic problem is due to overheating and something to do with the motherboard. I've looked up tutorials and it means taking the WHOLE thing apart and reballing it with a heat gun. It can cost upwards of £80 to be fixed by Sony, even then there's a hugh possibility that it can break again within a few months.

So what are my options? Fix it for now and play it for whoever long before it breaks? Or buy a new one? I've seen a deal around £230 for a 500gb slim with two games. Seems reasonable. Considering mine is a 40gb model from release day. But I don't have funds.

Meanwhile my PS+ subscription is slipping away.
